Compact

Compact makes senseThe Peterborough Compact is a partnership agreement between Local public bodies and the Voluntary & Community Sector which aims to improve their relationships and provide a framework within which the sectors can understand what to expect from each other.

The Peterborough Compact subscribes to the principles of the National Compact and sets out the principles and values of the partnership and aims to achieve a Compact way of working by helping us to :

Improve our communication with each other

Understand and respect each other's views

Peterborough Compact Background

In November 1998, Central Government signed a Compact with the voluntary and community sector at national level, to help guide the development of relationships between them.

The Government then encouraged the adoption of the Compact principles and guidelines at local level, where most community and voluntary activity takes place. The target set by Ministers for all local authority areas to be covered by a Local Compact was April 2005.
