Young and old join forces for a better Peterborough
Three leading Peterborough charities are working together to pave the way for a better Peterborough.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP), Young Lives and Peterborough Volunteer Centre will be standing side-by-side to show that young and old can work together for the good of the city. (Friday 5th September 2008).
CSV's Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) work with people aged 50+, many of whom give their time to work with young children on the Read, Write and Inspire Programme. The volunteers are placed in schools around Peterborough to help young children with their reading and give them a better chance in life. It builds trust and helps both parties to benefit from this work.
Young Lives work with young adults aged 16-25 to help and encourage them to be involved in many areas of voluntary projects, therefore gaining organisational skills which will help them through the rest of their lives.
Peterborough Volunteer Centre works with all age groups, helping to match people with volunteering opportunities throughout the area.
Paul Lenton, who is a co-ordinator for RSVP, says: "There are many young people that have little or no contact with senior adults and vice versa, this can cause misunderstanding between age groups. It is necessary to cross the barriers between generations, which is why we are starting this collaboration. We want to use this opportunity to reach people of all ages."
The organisations will be promoting what they achieve in Queensgate shopping centre on Friday 5th September. All three groups will be available to give help and advice on volunteering for all age groups across the city.

August 2008 - PCVS Wins NLDC Bid
Sarah Fletcher announced today that PCVS were successful with a recent NLDC application which will provide more IT facilities for our member groups and to organise a 'Training Fair'.
We will be putting on additional Information Technology courses from December 2008 until June 2009. Iin addition we will now be able to help with your practical IT needs. Designed to be practically useful for smaller groups in Peterborough the training and support will cover things as basic as:
:: How to set up and use web cams and projectors and use memory sticks and save documents to disk.
:: Downloading documents, completing the text, saving and sending them back. This might include funding forms or applications.
Additionally, In January 2009, we will also be organising a Training Fair for the voluntary sector. This will be a good opportunity for all small groups and organisations to find out what training is available in Peterborough and how this might help their work. We will be inviting a number of local training providers to partner us at the event.
More details of all of this will be available over the coming weeks.

Volunteers Centre
From the 1st July 2008 the Volunteer Centre will be providing full time weekday coverage for its services. You can contact Annette by email at annette.atkinson@pcvs.co.uk or Telephone : 01733 311016

Peterborough Infrastructure Group - PIG - 2008
Early this year the Peterborough Infrastructure Group were invited by Capacity Builders (the organisation managing the ChangeUp programme) to apply to form a local consortium, independent of Cambridgeshire. Capacity Builders have agreed to this new consortium and from April 2008 the Peterborough Infrastructure Group has taken on a new status.
Working on behalf of our voluntary sector the members of PIG wish to provide representation, a voice, and develop a strategy and business plan for how our sector should look by 2014.
It is vital we hear from all groups in the sector whether you are a small mums and tots group, run totally by volunteers, a weekend environment group or a very large charity based in the city. We are interested in what you have to say about your groups development needs. Read more...
