Volunteering into Employment was a pilot project started in November 2007 by Peterborough Volunteer Centre.
Funding for this project was from the Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities with additional support from the Well Being Project, Investors in Communities Fund. The current funding is due to end June 2008. The pilot programme has been very successful; a summary of the outcomes will be available in July 2008.
Unfortunately, due to the need to seek additional project funding we will not be in a position to continue this project for the time being. However, if you are interested in this work please e-mail or telephone the centre. Should we be successful in finding funds to continue the programme we will circulate this information through our network and contact individuals who have expressed an interest in registering with us.
The Aim of the project was to:
Enable people who wish to use voluntary work as a route to employment the opportunity to gain specialist training, relevant volunteering, next step paths e.g. adult learning courses and possible employment opportunities.
Participants will have 3 routes to choose from:
• Retail – this will give practical training with using pricing guns, tills, stock taking and general shop work.
• Caring – specialist training in manual handling, wheelchair pushing and first aid alongside information about the range of care needs each individual will need to be aware of.
• Administration – practical advice to include office equipment use, reception work, filing and basic IT systems.
All participants will be expected to attend a customer care course which will prepare them for both voluntary work and paid employment.
We are keen to talk to any volunteer involving organisation that would like to support us with this work by offering a placement with them.
