About Us
Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service was set up in 1980 as an umbrella and network organisation to the voluntary sector in Peterborough. Over 40 years later, we are still providing essential support to the Peterborough community and our 500 members.
PCVS supports individuals and community groups to live better lives. We run a variety of services aimed at improving health and wellbeing, building the capacity of individuals and groups to help some of the most excluded members of society, and providing the skills and support needed for many charities and community groups, big and small, to thrive.
What We Do
- Provide information, guidance and training
- Identify local needs and develop initiatives to meet them
- Promote partnership between statutory and voluntary sectors in the delivery of welfare and other services
- Support innovation, accountability and good practice in local services
- Encourage and empower local groups to put forward their views on local and national issues
- Work with people, groups and communities to tackle inequality in a flexible and open way
The difference we make to our clients
PCVS runs a number of projects which impact individual and communities lives.
Our Volunteer Centre promotes volunteering and helps to match volunteers and vacancies. We run Annual Volunteering Awards to recognise the efforts of volunteers locally as well as promoting volunteering in National Volunteers Week.
We provide unique community development support which enables even the smallest charities and community groups to thrive and gives confidence to community leaders to support those communities who most need help.
Our direct payments team help those with care needs to arrange personalised services to suit their need.
Our Building Better Opportunities (BBO) project as part of Peterborough Plus Partnership helps to support some of those furthest removed from employment to seek work.
