Peterborough Celebrates International Women's Day 2024!
Back To Press ReleasesPeterborough Women’s Forum will be holding an International Women’s Day celebration at the New Theatre, Broadway, on Saturday 16 March.
IWD has been celebrated throughout the world for over a century, with the United Nations designating 8 March as the official day to celebrate the achievements of women, raise awareness of discrimination and actively drive towards gender parity in 1975. March is also Women’s History Month.
Peterborough has a strong tradition of celebrating IWD and the interest in organising events for networking and celebrating the achievements of women has grown in recent years. The women’s forum event is just one of many taking place in Peterborough throughout March. Peterborough Women’s Forum Chair, Iveta Suna said,
‘International Women's Day is a beautiful reminder that while not all women are mothers, each and every woman has a unique power and impact that deserves celebration. IWD is a day to recognize and honour the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in all aspects of life. Regardless of maternal status, every woman's presence and influence enriches our world, making it brighter and more vibrant.’
The Peterborough Women’s Forum event will feature discussion style workshops targeted at women’s health and wellbeing including Better than Burnout and Lets Talk Menopause. Attendees can participate in activities showing traditional dress on the catwalk, learning basic self-defense tips from a martial arts expert and join in a tufting and paper craft workshop to connect with their inner creative.
Refreshments will be available from various food stalls throughout the day, and there will be entertainment and live music from 2pm. The event will take place in the Boizot Suite of the New Theatre and entry is free.
Peterborough Women’s Forum is facilitated by PCVS (Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service) and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Voluntary sector and community groups with an interest in women’s networks can get involved in the forum by contacting communities@pcvs.co.uk
