Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Paul Bristow, visited The Garden House at Light Project Peterborough on Friday 26 September to see first-hand how the city is helping people get online through the Digital Hubs scheme, delivered by Connecting Cambridgeshire and the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA).

The scheme, being delivered in partnership with Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service (PCVS), is providing grants to local venues such as community centres and church halls, enabling them to offer suitable, local access to digital support for residents who face barriers to getting online.

Free public access CambWifi is currently provided to over 200 public buildings and open spaces across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The network is being extended to market towns and village halls in rural areas to improve digital connectivity.

CambWifi is provided by Cambridgeshire County Council through the Connecting Cambridgeshire programme, with support from District Councils and additional funding from Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority to help keep businesses and communities connected.

This secure network is free and simple to join, allowing people to work flexibly, access public services, shop and pay bills online, and keep in touch with family and friends.

On 5th March, PCVS will be hosting a conference with the focus on Safety Online for Young People. Central to this will be the voice of young people and their views on online safety and the impact of it on their lives.

Perspectives from a range of organisations will be heard and examples of good practice discussed. The online world is an increasingly complex area and the conference will be an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of this challenging issue.

The event takes place at the Allia Future Business centre, Peterborough. If you haven’t received an invite but are interested in attending please use our contact form to get in touch.
